Transport in Quang Nam
From shuttles to bicycles to boats, there are many ways to travel around Hoi An and Quang Nam. Quang Nam province is well-connected to Vietnam through two airports, a seaport, the national highway, and train lines. Here’s everything you need to know about transportation to and around Quang Nam.
Getting to Quảng Nam
By Plane
Most visitors to Quang Nam will arrive by plane, landing at Da Nang International Airport about 27 kilometers north of Hoi An, or Chu Lai Airport 70 kilometers to the south of Hoi An. There are regular flights to Da Nang from most domestic airports in Vietnam and several capital cities in Southeast Asia.
Chu Lai Airport receives direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh and is a good alternative for travelers who plan on exploring southern areas of Quang Nam such as Tam Thanh, Tam Ky or Tam Hai.
At the airport
If you are arriving at the airport in Da Nang, the most convenient way to get to your destination is to request a pick-up service from your hotel. Another option is to hire a local driver for between 300,000 to 400,000 VND, or flag down a metered taxi to take you to your hotel. Taxi fares to Hoi An usually end up between 400,000 – 500,000 VND. If you purchase a local SIM card at the airport you can use Grab to book a car or motorcycle.
There are also shared shuttle buses and local buses that go between Da Nang and Hoi An every few hours. See a list of reputable shuttle and taxi services below.
By Train
Vietnam’s Reunification Express stops at the stations in Da Nang and Tam Ky. Tickets for the train can be booked at the railway station or on the official website: www.dsvn.vn. Your hotel or travel agent can also help you book a train ticket. For travelers with time to spare, the train is a slower way to arrive in Quang Nam, and a chance to meet and interact with the local people.
By Bus
Regular buses, shuttle buses, and sleeper buses departing from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and nearby cities connect Quang Nam with the rest of Vietnam.
Shuttle buses (sometimes called limo buses in Vietnam) are comfortable vans that cover short distances, such as from Hue to Hoi An. Vietnam’s sleeper buses are best for adventurous travelers, who don’t mind roughing it.

Getting around Hoi An and Quang Nam
If you are staying in Hoi An, cycling is a wonderful way to see the area, and you can usually rent or borrow a bicycle from your hotel. Another eco-friendly option is to hire one of Hoi An’s electric shuttles for day trips within Hoi An and around the countryside.
Taxis are widely available in Hoi An and Tam Ky, and are easy to call via the company hotlines. Taxi fares from Hoi An or Cam Thanh to the beach usually cost around 100,000 VND, and major taxi companies accept credit cards. You may like to ask your hotel to arrange a trusted local driver with a private car if you plan on taking day trips around the province.
TIP: It can be very useful to buy a local SIM card and download the Grab app or Mai Linh taxi app for times when you need to call a ride but are unable to explain your destination to the driver.
If you have an international license, you can rent a motorcycle or scooter to explore Quảng Nam on your own – just be sure to follow the road rules in Vietnam and always wear your helmet.
