Currency
The local currency in Vietnam is Vietnamese Đồng – VND. The exchange rate is about 23,000 VND to 1 USD. There are no coins and Vietnamese notes come in denominations between 1,000, and 500,000 VND.
For many travelers, it’s helpful to mentally remove the last three zeros from price tags when doing on-the-spot calculations. When paying with cash be careful not to confuse the 20,000 note with the 500,000 note, which are both blue.
Single withdrawal limits at local ATMs are between 2 and 5 million VND (check with your bank for your daily limit.) International credit and debit cards are accepted by a wide number of local banks, including Vietcombank, MB Bank, and Techombank.
